SMART SPRAY GUNS OFFER A REFRESHED PALETTE
The past five years have brought vibrant transformations to the world of paint hardware, whether that be in intricately beautiful designs on refreshed spray guns, products designed for operational efficiency or anything in between.
Among the most significant trends is the rise of smart spray guns that utilize artificial intelligence (A.I.) algorithms to optimize paint application, particularly at the manufacturer scale in OEM assembly plants. These advanced processes not only ensure consistent coverage but also adjust parameters in real time based on environmental conditions, reducing waste and improving finish quality.
Additionally, digital colour matching technology has reached new heights, with systems that leverage machine learning to accurately analyze vehicle colours. The integration of cloud-based management systems is also contributing to inventory tracking and workflow management. Bodyshops can now monitor paint usage in real time, forecast needs more accurately and streamline ordering processes, leading to reduced downtime and improved profitability.
When looking at specific systems, Nissan announced at the beginning of October that it has improved its paint defect detection rate after investing in advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning designed to detect paint flaws. With the AUTIS Surface Verification system, the OEM announced that it has improved its defect detection rate by nearly 7 percent.
Similarly, at this year’s Automechanika trade show, SATA announced the release of its new spray gun, the SATAJet X. During the event, SATA representatives outlined how the gun will include a labyrinth system that will guide the air in the nozzle so that it exits free of turbulence and pulsation. The gun also has a removable trigger and an integrated wrench for the fluid tip.
So, whether it’s a new paint gun or a hightech paint booth, this year’s continued advancements show that when it comes to the future of paint hardware, the industry isn’t just getting a makeover—it’s getting a whole new paint job. Turn to the next few pages and see products that are sure to make your collision repair process not only more efficient but also a work of art in its own right.
