BRUSHING UP

TAKING PAINT AUTOMATION OUT OF THIS WORLD

This year has seen continued forays into digital paint technologies, more sustainable options and improved ergonomics.

Collision Repair magazine got a chance to see these changes up close and personal with a visit to SATA’s headquarters in Germany where we received an exclusive tour of the global leader in spray gun technology’s facilities.

While the first spray gun tools were simple hand-pumped devices, Joern Stoever, interim general manager of SATA Canada, showed the Collision Repair team SATA’s recently released SATAjet X 5500 Universe which features an X nozzle system and a high-efficiency design that minimizes overspray.

From simple beginnings to broader environmental and technological outlooks, the paint hardware industry continues to develop with far reaching connotations in mind. According to the Business Research Insights September report, when it comes to accessories like body filler, “a focus on sustainability is one of the major trends in North America.”

Automation is also the name of the game when it comes to paint hardware performance. In August of this year, Budds’ Collision Services in Oakville, Ontario invited Collision Repair to check-out the Moonwalk automatic paint mixing system in action.

While the previous edition of Buyer’s Guide noted that PPG had installed more than 1,000 ‘Moonwalk’ units in the Middle East, Europe and Africa regions, it has since made it to Canada with the automatic paint mixing system being installed in early June at Budds’ Collision.

This edition of Buyer’s Guide may not be able to automatically mix paint for you, or prevent overspray, but it does offer reliable paint hardware for you to peruse to take your work out of this world.
